The purpose of these Regulations, made under the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency Act, is to prevent and minimise pollution from all operations and activities of the electrical and electronic sector. According to these Regulations, which apply the Polluter Pays Principle, a facility or a corporate of the sector shall submit to the competent Agency an emergency response plan, shall install anti-pollution equipment and shall implement best practices and pollution prevention measures. Matters covered by these Regulations include: effluent limitation and treatment, restriction on the release of toxic effluent, sludge disposal; emission standards and air pollutants, burning of fuels, air quality monitoring and reporting, noise pollution monitoring and its reduction; control of electronic waste, obligation of recycling plant; general and specific permits; industrial effluent monitoring and reporting; enforcement; offences and penalties; interpretation of relevant terms, including: air emission, air pollution, dangerous substance or preparation, effluent, electronic waste, grey water, green technologies, hazardous wastes, recycling, treatment, water efficient device, wastewater system, watercourse, waterbody.
